Closure within the Classroom

How will we evaluate the students?

To close this lesson, the students and teacher will create an alphabet book on Pixie.  Since each student is assigned a letter and have completed the task of making a connection to the book and to the letter, the teacher and students will spend time putting the book together.  This will be a creative, meaningul, and informative way to assess the students learning about text details and connections.    Students will have the opportunity to ask and clarify any final questions they may have.

To show off the students' learning, the class will host a Book Party.  Administration and parents will be invited to the Book Party to celebrate the telecollaborative project.  Here the students will present their alphabet book in order to demonstrate their learning and participation in the project.   Students will not only be evaluated on their connection of the "alphabet" letter to the text, but also how they present.  For example, if a student is presenting about his/her letter, how well are they able to express their understanding?  Can they add additional words to recall text details?  Can they make connections without reading from their page in the book?  Some of these questions can be asked as each student presents, to evaluate their true learning.

A Book Party is a great way to determine if this is a telecollaborative project we would do again. Some questions that could be asked to determine the sucess of the project are:

- Were the students able to identify details from a text?

- Were the students able to make connections using an alphabet letter to details in the text?

- Were the students able to verbally explain their learning?

- Were the students able to create a represenantation if their learning?

- Were the students successfully able to use Pixie?

- How did the students work turn out?  Was Pixie an appropriate tool?

Each student will connect with another student from another school/class who has done the same project.  They will share their letter with that student via Skype.  They will then use the ideas below in order to have a meaninfgul conversation.

1. Ask a question

2. Give praise

3. Give an idea to improve it
